research
Researching is an opportunity to question.
Between practice and teaching, research is a space to be comfortable being uncomfortable – by seeking out new knowledge, new means, and new methods. This “space” between things may be as vast as voided slots in the urban fabric, as small as the design of a material joint, as pragmatic as component-based building fabrication, or as aspirational as integrating sustainable performance with strong design. The delightfully blurry relationship between design intent and constructed reality is a process worth exploring in order to develop a better product. Le Corbusier explained it this way: “Between belief and doubt it is better to believe. Between action and dissolution it is better to act.”
